Americans work longer: oh joy!

Gentle Readers,

Reports of new studies continue to support the fact that the American worker spends more time at work than any other people on earth. They also say that Americans produce more. Let’s see, we work more and thus produce more. I hope that study didn’t cost us much.

I have come up with a totally different conclusion; work is overrated. As we in Middle America continue to buy into the version of the American Dream produced and directed by government and big business, we are no longer just getting the short end of the stick; we’re getting the entire shaft.

I have long believed that slavery and indentured servitude were simply replaced with the current version of the American Dream. It goes like this. Once upon a time, there was a huge group of people who watched way too much television and began to believe the commercials. Rich people on the commercials told this group of watchers that if they worked really hard and incurred enormous amounts of debt, they too, could be rich, famous, and languish around the pool. Okay, so it didn’t work out for most, but what it did for sure was to keep the rich and famous, rich and famous due to all of your hard work and interest payments. The truth ain’t always pretty, but it’s always the truth.

What we have here is a mental emergency, someone call 911.
