You’re in the Army Now; Without Pay!
Good Morning
Divide and conquer is the strategy that has been employed for years in American politics and I might say; it is working well.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but the tags of “Crazed liberal whacko environmental scum sucking nut jobs” on one side, and “Rich corporate war mongering conservative neo-con globalist traitors” on the other side, is wearing a little thin with me. I think they are talking about my neighbors?
But that is where we are isn’t it? The purposeful never ending war that is waged between so called liberals and conservatives is far more destructive than
The politicians on one side of the aisle blame the ones on the other side of the aisle for everything that goes wrong. And, we believe them.
That line in the sand is imaginary but absolutely necessary in order that no administration takes certain blame for their actions that cannot be unloaded on the former or the next administration or the one from 50 years ago. Otherwise, we would have one dominant party that did all the right things and one ostracized party that did all of the wrong things, but don’t worry, that won’t happen. We aren’t interested in right and wrong, we are interested in left wingers and right wingers.
Let’s take one example of recent times, the Reagan haters and the
Reagan did in fact restore our economy from a near free fall.
So who is the hero and savior; the liberal or the conservative? Neither of course. The American people have and will suffer long term consequences from the ill thought policies of both administrations. The trick to any successful administration is to be able to say, “It was alright when I left.” Both men said as much. Both men were lying.
What have you done lately to further the good of the
In this election, there is not one top tier candidate remaining that is telling the truth or has the slightest clue as to how he or she will pull us out of this recession. But who cares? They are carrying the banner of our chosen political army and if we have to sacrifice our cumulative futures and those of our children and grand children’s futures, we’re stickin’ with ‘em because we hate those other guys; those ones that we have never met, but we have heard the sound bites from our candidates and they hate them so we hate them. Sounds like a good plan to me.
Wake up

Hey Mike,
I believe that one of the major problems in politcal intercourse is that it has become unfashionable to challenge one to a duel. Remember Aaron Burr and Alex Hamilton? Every time I see someone brought up to capital hill and insulted and degraded by members of the house and senate, I say; challenge that S.O.B. to a duel. Gen. Petreaus was a recent victim. A man doing a thankless job for a fraction of the money he could be making in the corporate world, was treated like a child sent to the principals’ office.
With the duel back in play I think we could restore some honor to politics, and with any luck , eliminate 50% of the problem with each duel. Just a thought- - -
Larry
Larry,
I like the duel idea a lot! I’ll write to my Congressman and ask him to reintroduce the concept. It would make those folks a whole lot more civil. Can you imagine the look on their face if challenged to a duel? A bathroom break would be the next order of business.
Congress by virtue of being elected, has special privileges of which the greatest is having absolutely no accountability what so ever.
As a board member of a large company, I have seen some of my fellow board members (who were some of the world’s dimmest bulbs) rake competent employee’s over the coals and the employee had no recourse. Same goes for Congress, idiots with unchecked power.
Thanks for the post.
Hey Mike! Very interesting article and quite accurate. As far as the remaining 3 candidates for the 2 parties go I would pick Obama since he is at least saying more of the right things. One never knows what the relationship between what they say and what they will really do. Clinton and McClain are merely political hacks.
When it gets down to liberal, moderate, or conservative it really depends on the subject and the current situation as to which is better. It is much better to have someone with an open mind than one with a closed one. Of course those people get accused of flip-flopping or being inconsistant! You really cannot win. I have always loved how candidates are always saying that they will do this or that when they cannot do anything without Congress’s approval. Must be the lawyer in them, eh!
Whatever happened to a good debate? They never seem to discuss anything anymore. It is always my way or the highway(which needs drastic maintenance). I guess that they have so much money in their back pockets they do not have a voice of their own anymore. I think that we really need to remove our money(taxes) from their control. The budget needs to be set by what is available before any legislation can be enacted to spend it. If they run out of money for a certain project then the lobbyists or the politicians themselves must provide the needed extra funds. That would help balance the “budget” real quick.
As far as “idiots with unchecked power” go if you take away their power to spend what we don’t have, the power will be checked fairly quickly. Whatever happened to “Power to the People”? Naturally each politician assumes that they are the people. Shouldn’t we let them know that they aren’t? Again the question is how? This is the real question and it is a doozy! Have a good one Mike!
Michael,
Good comments. As far a flip flopping, the only thing that remains constant is change.
If a candidate had never changed their minds since grade school, I would figure that they have learned nothing since.
I would hope that we have all changed our minds as we matured over the years. Bringing out that a person wrote on the wall in kindergarten and had to stand in the corner has little interest to me.
As we slip deeper into recession the public will begin to take more interest in what government is up to. Let’s hope that they don’t turn to government for a solution.
Let’s exercise our rights to term limits; Throw the bums out in November; all of em.
Our power to control what our elected representatives do or do not do is very limited as individuals. But it is very vital for our system for each of us to participate in the system by educating orselves to the ways of our government and then by contacting our congress and senate via phone calls and mail to express our feelings regarding important issues of the time.
One of us will make very little impact on these elected officials. Millions of us directing them through our phone calls and letters will absolutely direct them to do the right thing; every time.
The key is:
1) We all need to inspire ourselves to study voting records of all candidates running for office.
2) To educate ourselve as to how our government is supposed to operate. A quick study on our nations economic policy is a real eye opener for starters.
3) And to vote for the right person, not a party affiliation, race or gender. And if an adequate candidate is not in the running for what ever reason; it is our duty to vote for none of them.
Common sense also plays an important part, but is not usually attainable to an un-informed individual. Someone who refuses to do a littel home work. Someone who bases their entire existense on media spin and sound bites. -bb

Good post and spot on. When I was a director for a large power company, the board behaved quite differently when the public was raising heck and questioning them.
When things would settle back down, they would go back to their old ways. At one time (when I was elected) nearly the entire board was replaced due to a public outcry and the voting that followed.
Government works exactly the same way. I say, throw the bums out, we desperately need term limits for more reasons than I have space to write.
