Need a Job? Government is Hiring:

Michael Hodges, writes the Grandfather Report and reports that since he was a young man, Government growth has reduced the private sector from 7.3 times larger than the government sector, to just a 1.5 ratio today!
Michael goes on to say, “Increased government (at all levels) not only consumes national income by its spending, but their employees continually issue new regulations aimed at the reduced private sector with the cost of compliance passed to the private sector as un-funded mandates to the tune of 15% of national income. Adding this 15% to the above graphic’s 43% would increase government’s control-share of the economy to 58%.”
So now you know how employment figures are so high. “Not working? No worries mate, your government will hire you.”
Why would our government continue to hire people that add to the already intolerable burden on
Perhaps, Robert Hickerson said it best in his paper written
Robert Hickerson said a mouthful, but in fewer words from the King of Simple, “our economy isn’t growing; our government and debt are.” Remember that all government activity is added to GDP!
Like the depletion of natural resources, the growth in government has its limits. We passed those limits long, long ago and the shortfall is simply put on the cuff, accounted for as our National Debt, as Robert Hickerson so well stated.
A new danger seems to be that those totally dependent on government for their incomes are nearly equal to the private sector and already control some 58% of the falsely reported economy. So when it comes to larger more controlling government, how will these people vote?

It’s not looking a whole lot better is it? Wake up

Hey Mike, The job bit is a mess, eh? I know you do not like having the government doing a lot but there are times and things they can do without screwing us up as much. One way would be encouraging businesses to equalize their pay levels by using taxes as incentives.
The more equal a companies pay levels from top to bottom the less the company is taxed. As the lower paid jobs are raised and the overly paid ones are lowered it becomes easier for students seeking education to aim for different jobs instead of all trying to get just the high paying ones.
Yeah!, I know that this would be more like a utopia and difficult to bring about what with peoples greed. But it would be one way of leveling the playing field, so to speak, without having to resort to government mandating that each person train for a specific job. It would be nice to see less lawyer and accountant students too. Our society needs to be much better organized in order to survive, let alone succeed. The question is how do we achieve this without having a government trying to force it. Take it easy Mike!
Michael,
I believe that some of these issues will correct themselves in that, we already have far too many chiefs and not enough Indians.
There will soon be fewer Chief positions open as our economy continues to fail.
Having as many people in government as in the private working sector is dragging us down and placing unfair burdens on one class to support the other.
The working stiff supporting government is equally punitive to the poor supporting the rich. Where is the outcry?
That is why our national debt continues to rise. Even with all of the taxes collected today, we still run a vast deficit to pay for government which has no bounds in regards to expansion until such time that caps are initiated. Don’t hold your breath.
Hey Mike, again! The real need for intelligent usage planning of most everything affecting our lives is the crushing effects of overpopulation. If overpopulation is allowed to continue at it’s horrific pace we will likely wipe ourselves out in the near future.
Whether it will be disease, war, starvation, or otherwise we are getting closer to the end with every day. As we both agree the human race lacks in common sense and simple logic. With our high speed society of today we have even less time to stop and think, at all!
With the knowledge available today there is no excuse for humans to act as they do other than they are not educated or poorly educated. The effect of superstitions, religions, beliefs, and other nonsense on “education” is devastating and the human race embraces all of these. As Ricky always said to Lucy, God you’ve got sum splanin’ to do. How come we always reduce ourselves to the lowest common denominator? It is not really that much harder to subscribe to the higher road is it? Try to keep to the higher road Mike!
Mike..
Just a reminder.. You mentioned GDP growth.. I believe that number is adjusted for inflation, and therefore incorrect ..
If they cook the books on CPI, then subtract that number from GDP, it shows higher growth than actual.. I believe now, most people agree, that inflation as measured by the CPI is incorrect..
Like most government numbers, you can’t believe them.. This is one reason, the government can claim we aren’t in a recession, even tho we don’t have growth beyond real inflation..
If I’m wrong, I hope somebody will correct me..

Michael,
My mission in life is to bring out little known facts so that people will hopefully have something to think about other than who will win American Idol.
Population is of course the real issue. If it weren’t for the basis of our entire economy being predicated on growth, this insanity could stop.
At some point, our entire economic basis will have to be revived. There is just no other way.
Wma,
You are absolutely correct in that inflation is out pacing growth and therefore in real terms we have negative growth.
I need to write another column about this subject. But, the numbers are fake as a three dollar bill.
Unemployment is higher, debt is higher, inflation is higher and growth is lower than being reported.
What ever it takes until it won’t take any more.
Hi Mike,
Given the degree to which “privatization” of government has occurred, I’m not really sure what the ratio of actual “civil servants” to privately employed individuals is anymore. Certainly, they all sup from the public trough and are thus dependent on taxpayers for their income. And, because private enterprise requires profit, additional taxpayer expense is required by “cost plus” contracts.
A serious and sincere national discussion about what are “essential” government services would be very desirable.
On another note, but certainly not unrelated to future employment issues, I just ran across a link to an interview on CNBC yesterday with one Robert Hirsch who predicts $12-14/gallon gas and rationing. That should make people sit up and take notice of “peak oil!” Here’s the link:http://www.theoildrum.com/node/4019
