Surely, This Can’t Be Happening?:

Good Morning Middle America, your King of Simple News is on the air.

U.S. NEWS: The official warning that world oil would peak came in 1956. The proof that U.S. oil production had peaked came in 1970. Congress was warned in 1974 that not only oil, but other resources were playing out.

Acting quickly on this valuable information, thirty four years later, Congress blames oil company profits for the problem. I don’t make this stuff up…I’m not sure I could!

I watched Congress grill the oil company executives yesterday over their profits, suggesting that they were responsible for all of our ills. The last time I checked, the oil companies were responsible for the U.S. having any oil at all. After all, 75% of the oil that we use isn’t ours and somebody has to go get it.

The U.S. oil companies buy it from foreign nations at today’s $135 per barrel due to the brilliant actions of our quick responding Congress and Dept. of Energy, who for the past 52 years that they have known that time was running out; did nothing. And now it’s the oil companies fault?

Further more, the members of the Congressional committee treated the oil executives like common criminals. Their remarks were harsh, cutting and unprofessional. The total demeanor of the committee displayed unchecked bully pulpit power. It also displayed ignorance of stellar proportion. It was sickening and at the same time terrifying, to consider that these mean spirited ignorant pompous asses represent us.

Okay, I feel better now. Let’s say that you are in the copper mining business and things are a little slow around the mine for 20 years or so and suddenly, copper becomes a hot commodity. The price begins to climb well above production costs and profits are rolling in. Good news huh? Congress doesn’t seem to think so, at least not in an election year when they could blame your success on their failures.

Hillary and Bill Clinton are the tallest hogs at the trough when it comes to placing blame on the oil companies. Hillary has screamed herself hoarse about oil company profits in a clever diversion away from the fact that as a senator, she has done zero to address the energy problem. But more importantly, Hillary and Bill made $109 MILLION over the last 7 years and didn’t provide us with anything useful. Where do these people get off talking about unjust profits?

The U.S. is in a heck of mess folks and my old hound dog trailed the problem right back to our elected officials and then treed us as the root cause for those elected officials still being in office.

Our government intellectual-capital bank is broke beyond recovery. Sending these same people back to represent us truly demonstrates that Einstein knew of what he spoke when he described insanity as doing the same thing over and over and expecting to eventually get a different result.

I did my best for a long time to believe that things weren’t really as bad as it appeared. I can no longer afford to deceive myself and certainly not you. Oil is going to be our Achilles heel. The cost is going to climb beyond our ability to continue to operate this nation as we have for the past century. Oil is just the first in a long line of non-renewable resources that will soon fail to match consumption

The magnitude of the end of cheap oil should not be taken lightly. Our entire culture will have to drastically change. For many, it will be catastrophic. Take time today and consider ways to personally cut back on oil usage while you still have options.

Or, you could wait for the demonstrated abilities of Congress to figure it out for you…in 50 years or so.

I just discovered a candidate that will most definitely win the 2008 presidential election over the top republican and the twin democrats. -bb

Billy B,

I’m sure that you are referring to the stages of a democracy and that we have reached the point of following a dictator.

While General Zod is used with good humor, this may be closer to the truth than we would care to admit.

When unprepared and uniformed people begin to feel the pain of a declining economy, they line up behind the first person that offers to deliver them from the source of the pain.

History is full of excellent examples of seemingly intelligent and civilized people lining up behind a nasty dictator, no better example exists than Hitler.

Hopefully we will find a better way of changing our current course. But, it won’t be any of the current leadership contenders (except Ron Paul) who fill the bill as Pathfinder.

Good Morning Mike, I’m guessing that the nominating commitee for the Oscar’s is really struggling after those performances yesterday. Behind closed doors they have to be ecstatic over the windfall profits from gas taxes while publicly faking outrage.

Hey Larry,

Yep, no one ever mentioned the income to our government; not one time.

I’m always held nearly spellbound when I hear Congress talk about gouging.

The natives are going to be less than peaceful once the full impact of the energy situation hits them. I’m thinkin’ that a one trick pony like Congress will fail to impress them with a repeat performance…could get down right interesting.

I think your hounds have found the core to most of our problems.. All the problems are political, and the only solution is political..

The problem isn’t the people, it’s the best government money can buy… The people aren’t given a choice.. The game is fixed..

BTW.. How were good thinking Alaskans supposed to vote Ted Stevens out of office..?? No chance.. None at all..

One way

Tnx.. WmA

Kind of looks like the great state of Alaska is not a lot different than the rest of the country, no matter how much they would like to go back to the good old pioneer days of Alaska.

If in fact they had good thinking people, it would have been no problem removing Stevens or Young from office years ago. The problem is that Alaskans suffer from the same laziness, denial and ignorance as the rest of the country. There is little or no interest in educating ourselves in the way our government is supposed to operate (the constitution would be a good place to start for those interested) anymore. There is even less interest in intelligently participating in our system these days. With all the technology at our disposal in this era, there is no good reason for not being an informed citizen. Americans were much more informed before this modern technology due to the fact that they read about their government and about history and cared enough to participate intelligently. Those days are long gone. I hope they will return at some point beginning in the near future, but there is little evidence this is happening to date.

The state of government in any civilization has always been a direct reflection of the people being governed. The more we choose to remain ignorant to our constitution and the ways our government is supposed to be operating and the more we continue to use TV sound bites and media spin as our sole source of education, the longer we will be governed by greedy tyrants, until the system collapses. I am still optimistic enough to believe (a majority) we will shed our gullible, lazy ways and become an informed nation once again. If this does not begin to take place prior to the upcoming presidential election, I am afraid it will be much to great a problem to reverse in the coming years. -bb
